We are very proud to announce of 2nd Annual Sydney’s 5K Run which will take place on Sunday April 7, 2013 at Rio Vista Park. All proceeds will benefit individuals with Autism, Cognitive Disabilities, Epilepsy, Cerebral Palsy and other health issues.
Last year we were able to raised $2200. This year’s target sponsorship is $5,000! We are asking you to partner with us to make this year’s Sydney’s run a big success!!! All proceeds raised will be used in order to support the Advanced Independence Day Program for young adults with special needs.
Who is Sydney?
Sydney’s 5K Run was created in honor of our very own beloved and courageous Sydney Nicole Winston, who was a client of Advanced Independence for several years. Sydney was born with a rare, progressive, and degenerative illness known as Spinal Cerebra Ataxia, also known as Friedreick’s Ataxia. We lost Sydney, unfortunately in December 2010, but her beautiful spirit continues to burn bright within our organization.
Advanced Independence
Advanced Independence, L.L.C was established in 2006 and in the past six years has served over 300 clients. Our philosophy is to invest time experience and education in order to help change lives. Progress is often slow with some of our clients; therefore, we encourage them to “never give up!” Here at Advanced Independence our motto is, “Empowerment is Growth Within and Where Every Moment is a Learning Moment.”
Advanced Independence celebrates individuality and recognizes different ways people can learn. Through a process known as Individual Support Plan (ISP), we create strategies utilizing many community based programs that promote individual creativity. We praise the efforts and successes of our clients on a regular basis. We also equip the families of our clients with information and tools to assist their children in becoming independent and productive members of society.
Statement of Need
It is imperative that our needs are addressed at this time. The funds that we wish to generate will be used to purchase a special vehicle to transport our clients on outings. We also need tables, chairs, computers, vocational equipment, paper products, arts and crafts supplies and educational games. Our target population will include individuals in the West Valley who attend our Day Treatment Program.
These are a few of the Special programs that we have; Horse Therapy, Life Skills, Special Olympics, Community outings and Volunteer services at a local church and Feed My Staving Children. We implement these programs for the purpose of planning, teaching and providing habilitation to meet the specific needs of our clients. Their needs are of the utmost importance to us and will not in any way be compromised.
Other Fund Raising Initiatives
Although last year was our first Sydney’s Run, we were able to raise funds by hanging flyers and other promotional materials door to door. We participated in community outreach programs, social networking, emailing posting on runners websites, and word of mouth. This year we have targeted communities for fund raisers web sites. We also have craft items for sale on our website. These items were made by our Day Program consumers. We also will be selling greeting cards that our consumers designed. Check out our website at www.advancedindependence.com
Advanced Independence is a for-profit organization, but our cause is non-profit and all proceeds raised for Sydney’s K run will benefit the Day Treatment Program for adults with developmental disabilities. Our Day Program is located at 10147 West Grand Avenue #C1, Sun City, AZ 85351
Please make all donations payable to Advanced Independence, in the memo section please note Sydney’s Run. Please feel free to call 623-933-7081 for additional information or mail in the attached form with your sponsorship. We gladly accept sponsorships and donations in any form and any amount.
